2020.02.24 18:36 crimsoniac I love it when the rolls reflect parts of the story [Game Tales]

TL;DR: My warlock stood up for herself against her abusive patron and started rolling nat 20s.
Sorry for the wall of text! Also, sorry for my English, it’s not my first language.
One of my players decided to make an aasimar warlock, and when we were discussing about her backstory, she decided that her patron would be a mysterious humanoid figure, that “saved” her when her adoptive family was attacked. In exchange for the powers, this entity took one of her eyes out and replaced it with one of his own, and made her promise to stay away from any and all addictive substances. After that, he mostly left her to her own device, working as a bounty hunter, always hiding from the people she captured, and also searching for her brother Derek, who was lost on the attack.
After we started playing, and she started to bond with the group and the people in it (Holy shit, when someone knows how to play the loner without being edgy it’s so satisfying), the entity reappeared, taking the form of a wendigo, lashing out on her because he said “Friends are the most addictive substances that exist”. After that, the entity would appear to mentally torment poor June (Don’t worry, we talked with my player and we agreed on boundaries with this “abuse”), and every time that he appeared, my player started rolling quite badly with her pact weapon and eldritch blast, almost like it was “reflecting” her patron toying with her powers (Mind you, we play on Roll20, so we can’t blame a piece of plastic). While this was happening, she bonded with the other Aasimar, Coneja, a cleric of Selune. With her help, June found out that she was supposed to have an angel, and that she had angelical blood.
Then, when the group was taking a job as mercenaries, the woman that was hiring them slipped a note to June that said “I can help you. I know where Derek is. Meet me at the docks at night”. So, they waited at the docks at night, and there arrived the woman who hired them, a man (Derek) and a woman (Derek’s wife). They stood there waiting, when the entity emerged from the shadows near Derek, and started demanding something. The group of heroes came out, and demanded to know what was happening.
After a tense roleplaying moment, the patron tormented June again, and after that, for a while, she rolled like shit in and out of combat. Coneja helped June overcome the fears of her patron, and took her to a Sêlune church, where she had an epiphany and fought the bad influence of her patron, vomiting a black substance after that. Following this, the first fight they had, she was poisoned by a drow blade. So she had to make both of her eldritch blasts at disadvantage. She freaking rolled THREE naturals 20 in a row, and even at disadvantage, she managed to hit the second one, which was a total of 17. Image for proof, Descarga Sobrenatural means Eldritch Blast just in case.
Following this, I had Coneja’s angel explain to June that her patron was starting to lose that bad influence on her, but that he feeds on her insecurity. So now we roleplay that whenever she fails badly, is because of her self-doubt, at least for now.
I think this is a cool lesson of taking the roles into account while playing, it can make for some awesome story progression.

I would like to give an honarary mention to the NYCT holiday transit show, which is ending soon. It is easy-access (in Grand Central), interesting, and super low-key. You can just pop in and stay however long you like.
Shameless self promotion: you can search through my collected events here. The search feature is very simple, but tune in next week when I will have better filtering methods. Also, some of the public art are a little wonky.

Masq Cycle 001 Circle 4: Masc-Allyship, 2/20

Masq is a healing initiative that aims to evolve our relationships with masculinity, thru open-conversation. We strive to destroy the toxic elements that exist within the identity, and embrace its existence beyond it’s cis-expression. This installment of Masq is going to be largely focused on how we, as masculine-identifying individuals, can utilize our power and privilege in our intimate realities to do our part in dismantling our patriarchy. This discussion can be broken into 2 parts, intervention in ways that are obvious (external), & intervening in ways that are less obvious (internal). Anjan Alavandar (they/them) is the founder of Masq. Anjan is an American born South-Indian community organizer who was raised in North Carolina. Anjan has been exploring the confines of masculinity from a young age. Community Create-A-Thon: Census 2020, 2/21

No one knows your community better than you. So, whether you want to design a sticker, draw a poster, write a poem, sing a song, or choreograph a dance, Lincoln Center teaching artists will be on hand to help you shape your ideas. Come collaborate on fun and accessible art projects to help reach the people in your life and share the importance of the census.
Lincoln Center, in partnership with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and the U.S. Census Bureau, wants to ensure that our communities get their fair share, especially people in historically under-counted groups. These include people of color, immigrants, LGBTQIA people, people experiencing homelessness, people with low incomes, renters, single-parent households, people with limited English proficiency, and children under the age of five.
Why the Census Matters The Census, a once-a-decade population count, affects your representation in government, and determines how much funding your community receives. When a person isn’t counted, they lose out on nearly $2,000 every year for TEN YEARS in direct services like SNAP, WIC, hospitals, schools, transportation, and road maintenance.

2019.12.26 23:32 nohomowner Mystery Toilet

Ok, so I just bought my first house. And of course, I notice a couple days after closing, that the toilet is running. I shut the water off to the toilet and an hour later, the tank was half empty. Given that there is no water on the floor, I assume the water is leaking into the bowl. This toilet is a one piece, dual flush toilet which I am pretty unfamiliar with, but after some tinkering I found out that the leak seems to be where the rubber washer at the bottom of the piece that lifts up when the toilet is flushed meets the piece that is attached to the bottom of the tank (I am not 100% this is where the leak is, but when the tank is left full, the water stops leaking once it gets to this point in the tank.) Now here's where it gets weird, I can find almost NO TRACE of this toilet existing. The tank says "Aqua Nuova" on it. It was brand new when we bought the house this month, because the house was a flipped foreclosure. This is the only place I've found anything about this toilet (https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ve/MLV-519571526-wc-poceta-de-lujo-moderna-doble-descarga-marca-aqua-nuova-_JM) which is pretty weird considering that I live in Missouri. I can't seem to find any direct replacement parts, and none of the washers I've found in local hardware stores can fit on this flush valve. Also, none of the stores seem to carry a dual flush valve for a one piece toilet. I'm at a loss here aside from buying a whole new toilet, but I'm hoping that there's a solution that I just don't know about because I am inexperienced in this area. It would be very annoying to have to buy a new toilet because this one has one leaky washer. But is also seems weird to me that a brand new washer would be leaking. Please Help!

2015.12.24 17:55 RameausNephew 2015 releases: full album links

Merry Christmas, /jazz! I've compiled a list of 2015 releases for which full album content is available on YouTube. All of these are publisher provided, however for most of them I had to create the album playlist myself.
Obviously, I can't get everything. (There's no ECM albums, for example, a really big hole.) I'd be happy to update this with your suggestions (along with a shoutout to you) if you can provide links. The list isn't really about recommendations (some of my own favorites aren't here--Ben Goldberg's Orphic Machine, Orange Trane Acoustic Trio's Fugu, Romain Baret Trio's Split Moments, etc.) but I'm hoping we can discuss the relative virtues of these albums (and others) in the comments.
There's a lot of variety in here. I'm sure everyone can find something to love, and something to despise. :-)
